Job Description

Our client, an international insurance company, is looking for a Head Data Analytics to support the Financial and Business Team.

He/she will be in charge of the following tasks :

  • You will be responsible for leading a team of data analysts and BI experts, consisting of 5 internal FTEs and up to 10 external specialists (depending on project needs).
  • You will drive and deliver high-impact business intelligence projects on the core insurance business, enhancing the understanding of financial performance across the company value chains, leveraging an industrialized, modern data platform stack.
  • You will acquire a deep understanding of the business and building strong relationships with the Life/P&C leadership teams and other key stakeholders (IT, AZ Tech, DPO).
  • You will lead high-impact analytical projects to transform data into actionable performance insights.
  • You will ensure regular and transparent communication with business stakeholders.
  • You will work closely with data engineers, architects, scientists, and governance experts and drive the enablement of managed business intelligence self-servicing across the company’s data domains.
  • You will develop scalable, innovative information marts & solutions to enhance data-driven performance management and strategic decision-making across the organization.
  • You will build strong working relationship with the business, from L2 to team leaders. Acquire a strong understanding of the operation of the business across Benelux and its constraints, opportunities and strategic objectives.
  • You will collaborate cross functionally with other leaders in the business as well as external stakeholders to analyse the problems/constraints/operational issues faced by the business and, via strong stakeholder management and communication, prioritise the effort of the team to have meaningful impact.
  • You will acquire a strong grasp of the data environment of the business (from back-end systems to local data hubs), its maturity, robustness and dependency on other systems/local or Group initiatives. You demonstrate a knowledge of the systems/platforms currently in place and alternatives in the market.
  • You will prioritise the current set of deliverables to maximise value and drive the creation of a future roadmap of solutions.
  • You will attract, build and develop a team of data analysts fit to business demands.
  • You will oversee the technical delivery of the solutions, including adherence to communicated milestones and budget.

 

Profil

  • 5+ years of relevant leadership experience in business intelligence, data analysis, data warehousing, data modelling in insurance, banking or telecom.
  • Prior experience leading business-critical projects, Experience working with large, complex (possibly semi-structured) data sets.
  • Experience with SQL, Data Warehouses (in particular Data Vault methodology), Data Modelling & visualisation (e.g., E-R diagrams).
  • Experience with insurance product and insurance market in particular with performance KPIs (e.g., Combined Ratio).
  • BI Platforms: Advanced skills in BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, or Looker.
  • Data Governance: Understanding of data quality management, metadata management, and data lineage.
  • Project Management Tools: Proficiency in tools like JIRA, Confluence for managing projects execution & documentation.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Ability to inspire, mentor, and lead a diverse team of data analysts, engineers, and BI experts. Proven experience in managing both internal and external teams, ensuring collaboration and alignment on goals.
  • Change Management and Adaptability: Expertise in driving cultural and organizational shifts toward a more data-driven mindset. Flexibility to adapt strategies and workflows in response to changing business environments, technologies, or priorities. Skill in managing resistance to change, especially when introducing new BI methodologies or self-service solutions.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong business acumen to align BI initiatives with organizational objectives and priorities. Ability to anticipate business needs and identify opportunities where BI can create value.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Ability to prioritize projects effectively and make informed decisions in high-pressure situations. Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate trade-offs between time, resources, and impact.
